Watchman, What of the Night Isa. 21:11

Introduction  A watchman’s duty is to warn of danger.  Old Testament for our learning (Rom 15:4)  Declare what he seeth. (Is. 21:6)  If he fails, his blood is upon his own soul. (Ez. 3:17-18)

The Need for Watchmen  The devil seeks to devour. (I Pet. 5:8)  Grievous wolves abound. (Acts 20:29)  Some are perverse. (Acts 20:30; Gal. 1:7)

The Work of a Watchman  See present or approaching evils.  Elders are watchmen. (Heb. 13:17)  Preachers are watchmen (II Tim. 4:5)  Watchmen “Cry aloud, spare not.” (Is. 58:1)  Errors must be exposed. (Isa. 21:6)  Sinners to be rebuked. (I Tim. 5:20; Gal. 2:14)
