Lab Comments

Purpose of Lab See syllabus topical outline Transactional Analysis Plan, implement, and evaluate a group session that allows group members to practice principles and techniques of transactional analysis.

Sample Purpose: To provide an opportunity for the participants to increase knowledge of transactional analysis (TA) Goals: To identify components of TA To identify components within conversations To practice applying TA to Leisure Education

Sample Given a worksheet with TA component descriptions, participant will verbally state the name of at least 3 components correctly. ABCD Actor Behavior Condition Degree

Introduction Don’t forget to state: Purpose of lab Definition of terms Overview of session Any ground rules for participation 2-3 minutes

Implementation Make sure activities meet the goals Fun is not the primary goal Could break into 2 groups with each leader facilitating a group Determine what you will do when you are the co- leader Pay attention to transitions & summaries Between activities Between leaders

Processing Questions Could be questions or activities Have variety Make sure BOs were met Given the large range of activities available, why do some people have trouble finding activities they like? How can you apply this technique in working with clients in a rehab setting? Your examples…..

Closing Summary Discuss application to TR or TR populations Not “that’s it” Plan (Write questions when planning group) Allow sufficient time 2-3 minutes After summary of lab, do evaluation Allow sufficient time At least 5 minutes Total lab time = 30 minutes Approximately 25 minutes in body

Evaluation Questions How well did the leaders present the material? Did you feel the leaders were adequately prepared for this lab? What could have been changed? Explain the strengths and weaknesses of this lab. How might the transitions be improved? Your examples……

Learning Measure Don’t forget some type of learning measure Did the participants learn about techniques of TR? Could be multiple choice Could be true/false Could be a worksheet This is in addition to making sure you BOs were met during the session
