Calories are a measure of energy The energy needed to raise 1g of water by 1°C Your calorie needs depend on how much energy your body uses every day

“Total Fat” is the amount of LIPIDS in the meal Saturated Fats Unsaturated Fats - are found in animal products and processed foods - are solids at room temperature -animal fat, butter, chips, cake, etc. - are found in nuts, avocados, olives, etc. - are liquids at room temperature

Cholesterol is needed for many body processes Too much cholesterol causes buildup in arteries which can lead to heart attacks and strokes Too much Sodium can lead to high blood pressure and calcium loss

Carbohydrates are made up of sugars Carbohydrates and sugars are good sources of energy

Dietary Fiber is Cellulose – a complex carb that we humans cannot break down
