MEL-Con Literary Analysis Peer-Edit Questions

Introduction (10 points) 1. Which method does the writer employ (use your notes to decipher)? If the writer uses a method not given by me, describe their method. 2. Is their introduction effective? Why? Cite specific examples.

Thesis (5 points) 3. Does the thesis statement come at the end of the introduction? 4. Does the thesis statement take a clear stance on the issue? What is their stance? 5. Does the information in the introduction lead up to the thesis statement effectively? How do you know?

Body Paragraph Structure (20 points) 6. Do the body paragraphs use the MEL- Con format correctly? 7. Do they contain transitional phrases? Write down their transitional phrases. Are they redundant? 8. Does the Con statement transition into the next paragraph? How do you know?

Examples/Evidence (25 points) 9. Does the writer use specific (quotes, etc.) examples/evidence from the text? Write them down. 10. Do the examples clearly and concisely fit the argument (thesis)? How do you know?

Grammar/Spelling (10 points) 11. Correct any grammar or spelling errors within the text.

Links (25 points) 12. Does the link fit with the Main Idea statement? How do you know? 13. Does the writer use a link for each example that ties the evidence and thesis together? How do you know?

Conclusion (5 points) 14. Does the conclusion contain all parts of a great conclusion? If not, what are they missing? 15. Briefly summarize your peer’s paper using the conclusion.
