Being Accountable at Progress Village Middle Magnet Means … Be in the right place at the right time Take ownership of your grades and conduct Admit when you have made a mistake

Period 2: Dress Code Do Now: How can having a dress code help the safety and well being of students? Objective : Student will review the dress code policies by using the their student handbooks and reviewing visuals

Dress Code Following dress code can ensure that each student is safe and aiding in minimizing distractions. Let’s look at some example of dress code violations.

Shoes Shoes should be worn at all times. Skates & bedroom slippers are not allowed.

Shirts Clothing should not expose the mid-chest area, shoulders, or contain any suggestive content.

Wallet chains are not permitted.

Finger tip length Mini shorts, skirts, and dresses are not permitted. Clothing should not be any less than finger tip length.

Compare and Contrast Refer to page 22 in the student handbook and locate the dress code policy. Locate the section that discusses the consequences of violating the dress code. Turn and talk with the person to your _____ and discuss what are the differences between the consequences of a 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd dress code offense ?

Period 4a: Disciplinary Policy Objective: Students will review PVMS’ disciplinary policy by using the student handbook.

Discipline Policy Using text evidence from your student handbook and personal experience write a paragraph explaining what is the purpose for having a discipline policy. Do Now: Refer to page 32 in your student handbook as we read aloud INTRODUCTION AND PHILOSOPHICAL BASIS.

Note: Zero tolerance offenses are major infractions such as fighting, using profanity directed at an adult, or directly disobeying an administrator’s directions. These may also include but, are not limited to: Level 1 Offenses Alcohol Battery Theft Arson Homicide Possession of drugs, firearms, or explosives Turn to page 33 for level 1 consequences. Conduct Cuts What does the word conduct mean ? What would be examples of a reason why a student would receive a conduct cut?.

Examples of Conduct Cuts Talking…………………………1 Examples: talking during silent reading, while teacher is lecturing, during tests, announcements, etc. Unprepared…………………1 Examples: not having book, pencil, paper, agenda book, pencils, pens, etc.

Off Task…………….1 Examples: writing notes instead of doing assignment, sitting and doing nothing, packing up early, etc. Out of seat without permission …….1 Examples: sharpening pencil in the middle of lesson, getting up and sitting next to a friend when done with work without asking teacher, etc.

Gum and Candy……………………………..1 Gum, candy, as well as any food or drinks are NOT allowed in classrooms. After repeated violations, students are subject to school beautification where students may be asked to pick up trash and wrappers in area designated by the teacher.

Put downs and Disrespectful Actions …1 Examples: insults, making fun of another student's answer or question, etc. Students should communicate appropriately with peers and adults. Inappropriate Behavior………………………1 Examples: inappropriate audience behavior, running/horseplay, making distracting noises, smacking gums, sleeping, touching others' property, not respecting or defacing school property, stealing, etc. Students should keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves. *

Period 7: Textbook Policy Objective: Students will review the importance of maintain their textbooks by locating and reviewing PVMS’s textbook policy Do Now: Make a list of ways you can keep your textbooks neat and in good condition throughout the school year.

Textbook policy It is your responsibility to maintain your textbooks throughout the year. You are responsible for any lost or damaged books. Any student owing for a book or books will not be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities until the debt is cleared.

Period 7: Electronic Devices Personal devices can only be used in approved areas and students must comply with staff directives regarding the use of technology devices. Audio or image recording, whether picture or video, without prior consent of the individuals being recorded, is prohibited. Cell phone conversations during the school day are prohibited unless under the supervision of staff personnel. Inappropriate use of the use of unauthorized devices will subject students to disciplinary action. “If We See It We Take It!”

Period 3: PBS What does the acronym S.T.A.R. stand for? Objective : Student will identify how PVMMS’ STAR expectations align with PBS by reviewing a PowerPoint.

All students are eligible to earn Bobcat Bucks throughout the school day. Bobcat Bucks can be given in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, etc. for reaching the high STAR expectations established by your teachers and other staff members Bobcat Bucks can be used for different events happening throughout the school year, such as popcorn/candy sales, team events, gift card raffles, in class, etc. Students will be surveyed to determine other incentives.

Period 8: Let’s Review After reviewing both the disciplinary policy, S.T.A.R expectations, and the bobcat bucks incentives write a reflection on your goals for this upcoming academic year. Be sure to include : Obtainable and thoughtful goals Textual evidence Personal experiences
