General RAW Room Requirements Absorber Hall 25’ x 25’ minimum floor space 12’ minimum floor-to-ceiling clearance Includes placement for (3) skids 6’W x 12’L x 10’H, + floor space for DI bottles LCW header routing through the enclosure will require an envelope of 1’ x 2’ along magnet side of enclosure wall 8’W x 10’ minimum door size RAW room MMC requires buckets for (3) skids with (2) 50 hp pumps, and reserve capacity for controllers AH electrical should include at least (2) 480-V welding outlets, 1 in the RAW room, and 1 near RAW line routing Chillers for 450 kW initial cooling capacity of RAW room components, expandable / upgradeable to 750 kW Instrumentation room will require 1 partial rack for LCW ACNET instrumentation September 9, 2010 Karl Williams – Absorber Hall RAW Systems 6
General MI-68 Room Requirements MI-68 Absorber Hall Service Building At this time, there does not appear to be cooling system requirements for components at the surface. However, heat removal requirements at the surface for RAW systems located in the Absorber Hall are significant. Chiller / Heat Exchanger for AH RAW systems, including two 6” IPS Schedule SS lines in the shaft, from the enclosure to the service building Chillers for 450 kW initial cooling capacity of RAW room components, expandable / upgradeable to 850 kW September 9, 2010 Karl Williams – Absorber Hall RAW Systems 7

Risks Heat loads, equipment sizing not fully defined as yet Difficult to size for 700kW beam, yet provide for 2.3MW beam –Cooling systems don’t work well sized for one load, and operated at a fraction of that load For 700kW systems piped for 2.3MW operation, reduced fluid velocity due to larger pipe size may help induce corrosion –Piping, pumping sizes adequate for 2.3MW are significantly larger than those for 700kW –Trade-off of expense & room for larger pipe now vs. possibility of never being utilized at higher capacity later –RAW room sizing is limited for future increases in capacities Studies of DI Bottle usage may show more room required for spent bottle storage September 9, 2010 Karl Williams – Absorber Hall RAW Systems 10
