Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Lesson Overview Objectives Develop a understanding of the basic features of Adobe Indesign including: Using Shapes Importing Text Creating columns Placing Images and using the text Wrap tool Formatting Techniques Outcomes Task 1Create the inside page for your magazine using the Indesign features. Refer to the Video Tutorials Task 2Create 2 additional pages using the same techniques.

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Creating and Formatting Shapes 1)Using the shape tool create some shapes for the background of your inside page. 2)Apply appropriate formatting. Shape Tool Colour Formatting

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Importing Text 1)To import text click on File >> Place. 2)Select the appropriate word document file. 3)You will be now able to draw a text box onto the page. The text from the word document will automatically fill the page. 1 23

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Importing Text 1)You can create a separate text box for the title and subtitle using the square tab at the top of the text box. Square Tab The title and sub heading have been moved above the original text box.

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Importing Text 1)If the Red arrow is showing at the bottom of the text box it mean there is still additional text to show. 2)Click on the red arrow and draw the additional text box. New text box Click to create text box for additional text

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Creating Columns 1)To create columns select the text frame and then select the columns icon. You can choose the number of columns. Two Columns If you right click and select text frame options you can change additional settings like spacing.

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Placing Image 1)To place an image you have to click on File >> Place. Then select your image. 2)You will now be able to draw the size of the image. 3)You can position the image by using the selection tool. Selection Tool

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Wrapping Text around Image 1)Cut around the image in Photoshop and place the image onto a transparent background. 2)Save the Photoshop file. 3)Place the Photoshop into your InDesign publication. Selection copied to a transparent background. Photoshop file placed into Indesign.

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Wrapping Text around Image 1)Select the image and then open the text wrap window. 2)Select the text wrap options show below. Wrap around object shape 2. Both Right & Left Sides 3. Detect Edges Image is now wrapped around the text

Unit 14 - Desktop Publishing Part 2 Formatting 1)Shapes and text can be formatted using the panel at the top of InDesign. Text can be formatted: Font Style (bold, italic etc), size, Colour, Spacing & alignment. You can apply additional formatting to your text and shapes including: Shadow Glow Bevel and Emboss Gradient Transparency
