MAIN PROJECTS  Dissertation:  Instructional practices of highly effective teachers  Teaching and learning math with interactive computer technology  PhET interactive simulations  SunBay Digital Math Project

BACKGROUND PhET project  Over 125 interactive simulations for teaching and learning K-college math and science  Research focuses both on design and implementation of sims

BACKGROUND PhET project  Over 125 interactive simulations for teaching and learning K-college math and science  Research focuses both on design and implementation of sims

BACKGROUND PhET project  Teachers develop activities to supplement sims  PD delivered via website

 Tech + Curriculum replacement units  Teachers receive professional development  Technology  Content  Pedagogy  Examining the impact on:  Student learning  Teacher beliefs and attitudes  Technology as a tool for communication 8 BACKGROUND SunBay Digital Math project

BROADER QUESTIONS  How do the different designs and PD delivery systems affect implementation, student achievement, and other measures?  What is the role of teacher facilitation?  How can we best support teachers to maximize the potential of these tools?  How might computer technology be used to support the development of teacher content and pedagogical knowledge ?  How might students use the sim as a tool for communication, particularly ELL students?  What affordances might sims provide for more equitable classrooms?  What are students’ perspectives of the practices that best support them to learn? 9
