Intellectual Quotient u What about IQ? –When the comparison matched star performers against average ones in senior leadership positions, about 85 percent of the difference in their profiles was attributable to emotional intelligence factors rather than to purely cognitive abilities like technical expertise –Technical, analytical skills are expected, “price of entry” ….but it does not make an employee superior in terms of performance. Goleman, Daniel; Boyatzis, Richard; McKee, Annie ( ). Primal Leadership –Companies are now looking at the emotional aspect of intelligence of applicants and employees in deciding whom to hire or whom to keep and whom to let go. According to studies, EQ predicts higher performance three times better than IQ. Robbins, Daniel ( ). Emotional Intelligence: The Genius Guide To Maximizing Your Emotional Intelligence - Master Your Emotions, Thoughts, and Communication Skills (EQ)

Emotional Intelligence = “EQ” u The rule of thumb holds that EQ contributes 80 to 90 percent of the competencies that distinguish outstanding from average Goleman, Daniel; Boyatzis, Richard; McKee, Annie ( ). Primal Leadership u What is EQ? –Emotional intelligence determines a person’s potential in learning practical skills that are based on elements that include self-regulation, self-awareness, motivation, empathy and adeptness. Robbins, Daniel ( ). Emotional Intelligence: The Genius Guide To Maximizing Your Emotional Intelligence - Master Your Emotions, Thoughts, and Communication Skills (EQ) –There is a genetic component to emotional intelligence, to be sure, but nurture plays a major role as well. Although people may differ in the initial level of their natural abilities, everyone can learn to improve, no matter where he or she starts out. Goleman, Daniel; Boyatzis, Richard; McKee, Annie ( ).
