Classification of Managerial Function Henri Fayol gave for the first time a clear functional definition of management.  According to him, “To manage is to forecast and plan, to organize, to command, to coordinate and to control.”  Fayol has given the following five functions of management :- 1)Forecasting and planning 2)Organising 3)Commanding 4)Coordination 5)Control Ralph Davis classified managerial functions into three categories :- 1)Planning 2)Organising 3)Control  He gave the view that command and coordination facilitate control.  Modern authors argue that coordination is not a separate function as it is the essence of management.
