From covenant to covenant, from promise to promise and from Sunday to Sunday, we walk towards Easter. It is already the power of his Spirit which brings us together and which makes of us today, a people confident in the pardon a people saved by Christ, “the power and wisdom of God.”

He who is the rest from all the pains, he has been tired of the pain of the journey. He who is the fullness who satisfies our hunger, he has had hunger when he fasted in the desert in order to be tempted. He, the watchman who does not sleep, he has fallen asleep.

He who is the source that quench the thirst, he was thirsty and he asked for water to drink. A.Ballan

He, the doctor of all sick people. His hands have been pierced by nails.

He, whose mouth was announcing good things, has been given gall to drink. He who had not done evil nor harmed anyone, has been struck with blows. He had given life to all the dead, he has been, himself, delivered to death on the cross. Aphoraste (IV Century)

n Sinai God pronounced all the words that behold… O the liturgy reports, the words of God, God speaks in saying, “me”, “I” and addresses himself to a “you.” The dialogue inscribes itself into a relation of love.

And today again the mission of the Church is not to propose some signs or elitist wisdom to those who crave them nor to manage the “religiously correct.” Her mission is to announce Jesus crucified and resurrected, “the foolishness of God, is wiser than the wisdom of man and the weakness of God is stronger than the strength of man.’’

He found the merchants installed in the temple… The temple of Jerusalem has become a house of traffic! God is relegated to a coin. You can’t put up with that, Lord. But is this not too often the image of our hearts? The true home of God, it is our heart: “We are the temple of the living God.” (2 Cor 6:16)

In chasing the vendors out of the temple you have told us your desire to free us from all that makes an obstacle to your love. Come to disencumber us, Lord ! Come always to open our hearts to God, to his light. To his love. Draw us along to follow you, Jesus, in our ascent to Jerusalem !

A new step on our road of Easter, and the tension increases in some measure… The word of God has this morning some strong words, some words which strike, or which shock. In the Christian order of things, no half measures. The Gospel is not faint for the lukewarm.

Certainly, Jesus has often said, it is the spirit of the law which counts, more than its “letter”, but the “commandments” are also an art of living, a manner of loving. Let us not be quick to say that they are the perimeters! As to the second reading to the episode of the merchants in the Temple, in the Gospel, Let us listen to it with our heart and ask ourselves what is truly our faith?

Lord Jesus, you have already chased the vendors from the Temple. Chase from our hearts today, which are the temple of the Holy Spirit, all which offends your presence, and fill them with the fullness of your love.
