The Digital Services Playbook: A combined government and private sector best practice “plays” In an effort to help federal programs improve digital interaction between U.S. Government and the citizens it serves, the U.S. Digital Service has produced the U.S. Digital Services Playbook. Based upon best practices, the Playbook consists of 13 “plays”, each designed to guide project teams to the better outcomes. The Playbook has been discussed at industry events and media venues, but widespread knowledge and adoption have lagged. To increase awareness, the ACT-IAC Emerging Technologies (ET) Shared Interest Group (SIG) will host a series of events related to U.S. Government programs delivered digitally.

ACT-IAC’s Game time Forum! Leveraging the ACT-IAC Programs and Forums, The Digital Services Playbook ‘Game time’ Forum would introduce the Playbook to the audience and serve as the venue that kicks off a series of events detailed below. Game Time will focus on knowledge transfer regarding implementation and answer questions about the Playbook. This ET SIG hosted Forum would engage large numbers of government and industry members to hear from USDS leaders about the strategy for the playbook, government agencies that are implementing the playbook, and industry partners with ideas for how to use the playbook to bring in commercial best practice

Game Time Details (proposed) Location: TBD, but likely Washington DC metro Date: TBD, need to coordinate with ACT-IAC schedules and speaker availability Time: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM Agenda: (subject to change, all speakers are recommendations) 8:00 AM: Registration 8:30 AM: Welcome Remarks (Dan Chenok) 8:45 AM: Keynote Address – “The Digital Services Playbook” (Mikey Dickerson) 9:15 AM: Panel – “How to best use the Playbook” (Mikey Dickerson, Greg Godbout, Johan Bos-Biejer, Wolfe Tombe, Carmen Iannacone) 10:30 AM: Break 10:45 AM: Panel – “Sample Project TBD” (TBD) 12:00 PM: Closing Remarks (Rick Holgate)

Other events being discussed The Digital Huddle: Two hour, interactive, town hall-like sessions conducted at government agencies over the next few months. Open to everyone offering a digital service, these sessions serve as a roundtable between Playbook coaches (facilitators) and the attendees. Providing an introduction to the Digital Services Playbook, the Huddle is aimed at those who know little about the Playbook and are looking to learn more. ACT-IAC Academy: Two classes would be developed and offered via the Academy. Each class would be eligible for CEU credits: Introduction to the Digital Services Playbook: Following the same model as the Digital Huddle, this class would serve as a starting point for those looking to learn about the Playbook. Advanced Digital Services Playbook: For those already using elements or familiar with the Playbook, this course would serve as a chance to work through scenarios, examine case material and meet with members of the Digital Service. Knowledge of the Playbook, attendance in the Introduction course or a Digital Huddle would be required prerequisites. Management of Change 2015: Currently working with the MOC team on how to best integrate into their event. ELC 2015: Digital Service Playbook Track or Innovation Zone: Approaching the ELC team. Publishing: ACT-IAC would look to partner with existing publishers covering the Federal space to turn the ELC coverage into an article focused on both the Playbook and representative solutions that have already been created. Several magazines catering to public service IT professionals have features innovative applications and portals, and these can be organized around the “Plays” covered in the Playbook.
