Introduction What is a spread sheet?  A spread sheet is a programme used to organising data.  It is also referred as a ‘big calculator’.  A vast amount of jobs use spread sheets for various purposes. For example: Teachers use spread sheets to organise the results of their pupils.

Rows and columns  Rows are horizontal and in the cell reference, they are the part with the numbers. For example in the cell reference A4, 4 is the reference of the row.  Columns are vertical and their part in the cell reference is the letter. For example in the cell reference A4, the A is the reference for the column. Rows Columns

Functions and Arithmetic symbols  Arithmetic symbols are functions that are used to calculate sums, using cell references.  REMEMBER that at the beginning of a formula, there is always and = sign!  These are the main symbols: / is divide + is addition - is subtraction * is multiplication
