UCI Summer School Genevieve Slosberg

Overview Lower division credit course of your choice Biweekly seminars, guest speakers come talk about different aspects of college life INSIDE UCI events: UCI sponsored events such as professor speakers and cultural/social events Highlight: you are technically an undergraduate student in the summer. You have your own UCI ID and access to all the facilities ^-^

Why? Economic reasons Standardized test prep Proximity to residence Want to delve deeper into subject of interest (International Studies)

Takeaways On a scale of 1-10, 10 being I loved the camp so much I would do it all over again, this is a 5-6. UCI is NOT the place to take humanities courses—most of my peers in the sciences and maths were more challenged and excited in their classes. Seminars tend to be boring if they don’t talk about your subject of interest. However, when they do, you make awesome connections! Excellent for networking(letters of rec? research opportunities?). Advantage of being local. Stay in touch!! Class was extremely interesting, it delved a lot deeper into materials than my AP classes. Definitely NOT the same experience as AP. Some classes are seminar style, some require you attend discussion sessions. WOULD RECOMMEND FOR: SCIENCE COURSES.

How to apply? --Application requirement: minimum of 3.0 GPA-- Application supplements: high school transcript, one teacher rec. Tips of application: 1. applying priority 2. drafting the essay Go to UCI summer session website: Summer.uci.edu You will find a “high school” category. This will direct you to the High School Summer Scholars Program website.

Ideal Summer! Internship at the UN backpacking around the world Internship with a politician Research with Clark Scholars Anything either interesting, prestigious or creative!!
