How to create assessments/quizzes/tests in Blackboard! Any questions?
Click on “Control Panel”
Click on “Pool Manager”
Click on “Import” This is the screen where you can see all the different pools of questions from which you can select questions for assessments.
Upload the.zip file for each group of questions. I put.zip files with Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Objective 1 TAKS questions on the science wiki page (
Once you upload the.zip files you can see and modify the questions by clicking on “Modify”
All questions are in this format. You must click on the link.doc file to see the question.
Questions open in separate windows like this. All questions are already graded (though you might want to double-check my answers…) Unfortunately, this was the best way I could figure out to display individual questions from all the released TAKS tests…
When ready to create a test/quiz/assessment, go to the page you want to add the assessment to and click on “Edit View”.
Then click on the “Test” button
Click on “Create”
Fill out name of assessment, description, instructions… Click on “submit” (or it might say “ok”)
Click on the drop down menu
Select “From a Question Pool…” You can also use this page to create individual questions from the different types of assessments from the drop- down menu.
Select which pool you want to pick questions from.
Once you select a pool of questions, you pick individual questions from this page
You can see the individual question by clicking on the link and you can also modify the questions, points, etc for each question selected.
Then select the name of the assessment you just created…
On this screen you can modify the assessment you created. By default, all assessments are not visible/available to students when they are first created. You must click on “Modify the Test options” to make the assessment available…
Make the assessment available to students here! On this page you can also change options like whether all questions will be shown at once, whether the questions are randomized, and whether the correct answer for each question will be shown to students after they submit their assessment.
Finally, the assessment/test/quiz shows up for the students to see!
This is what the students see when they take the assessment.
When they submit all their answers, they get instant feedback for each question.
The grades show up in the “Gradebook” which is in the “Control Panel”. There are different ways to organize the Gradebook, which can get a little complicated… The best way to learn your way around Blackboard in general is to just start playing with the different options (that’s how I learned everything)… Feel free to ask any question It might seem complicated, after a week or so all my kids knew to take out and start up their laptops when they walk into the classroom to do their warm-up on Blackboard! Feel free to ask any question
