Feast of Weeks or Pentecost

 Lev 23:15-22-compare and contrast with the previous three feasts:

 Wave offering of two loaves of bread  Bread made with yeast  Gleaning

 Feast of weeks  Pentecost

 Exodus 19:  V.1 Third month after leaving Egypt, 50 days after Passover  Shavuot, (Weeks)  The gifting of the Torah (law) at Sinai  Fifty days of waiting for the gift

 Acts 1:4 …wait for the gift my Father promised……

 Acts 2: giving of the Holy Spirit  Violent wind, tongues of fire-similar to Exodus  Pouring out of the Spirit on all people  A harvest of redemption available to everyone  Languages redeemed

 At Sinai  People afraid of God’s holiness, for awhile  Where is this Moses? Make us a god!  Death in the camp-3,000 fell  At Pentecost  The sword of the Spirit  The Spirit gives life  About 3,000 saved

 Why was the law given?  What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. (Romans 7:7)

 Then the law is bad?  So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. 13 Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure. (Romans 12:12)

 How can I keep the law?  For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, [c] he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. c

 What is this righteous requirement of the law?  Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
