Parts of a balance - Pan- Pointer - Riders- Beams - Adjustment knob
Step #1 Clean the pan.
Step #2 If the pointer is not at zero, have the teacher zero the balance.
Step #3 Place an object in the center of the pan.
Step #4 Move the middle rider over a notch until the pointer drops. Then move it back one notch.
Step #5 Repeat the previous step with the back rider.
Step #6 Move the front rider over until the pointer is at zero.
Step #7 Add the values of the three beams to determine the mass.
There will always be two decimal places in your answer. The last one must always end in a 0 or a 5.
