POINT OF VIEW

Point of View- is the vantage point or perspective in which the story is being told. In other words, it is who is telling the story. Stories can be told from either first person or third person point of view.

IN First Person- The person who is telling the story is IN the story. This is usually the MAIN CHARACTER.

not Omniscient ALL KNOWING Third Person- The story’s narrator is not a character in the story. In most cases a third person point of view has a narrator who is omniscient. Omniscient simply means ALL KNOWING. In other words, the narrator knows everything about ALL characters, their thoughts and actions.

Second Person- This point of view puts YOU, the reader, in the writing. The second person narrator is not very common. A story or novel won’t be written in this perspective. This is mainly done for effect. Example: You pull up at school and realize that you forgot your science project on the kitchen table. Suddenly, panic sets in. You realize that your parents already left for work. No one will be able to drop it off and Ms. Cruz said that if it’s not handed in today it will result in a failure—NO EXCEPTIONS!
