Getting Started: Have you ever used yeast? What is it used for? Concepts/Vocabulary: – Cellular respiration

Getting Started: What happens when large, multi- cellular organisms like people breathe?

Cellular Respiration:

Procedure & Clean-Up: Skip procedure step #9. The end of the hose must stay underwater in the large oval cup. Clean – Up: – All liquid must be dumped down the drains – All equipment must be rinsed AND dried. – Be sure to rinse out the dropper that was used to transfer the yeast suspension. – Restock the lab bins with paper towels

Lab Reports: Lab reports should include: – Cover Page – The following five sections Purpose Data Analysis Conclusion Lab reports should be typed in 12 point font. Lab reports should be double spaced. Lab reports should be completed in Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri (default MS Word font). NO OTHER FONTS

Lab Reports: Cover Page: – Three things should be listed on the cover page. 1 st – The title of your paper 2 nd – Your name 3 rd – The name of your school The Purpose: – Should begin with “The purpose of this investigation is to determine... – Identify your variables: Independent variable Dependent variable Control Variables Control Group

Lab Reports: Data – Should include all the quantitative and qualitative data you collected during the experiment. – All data should be organized in data tables. – All data tables should be numbered and titled. Analysis: – Summarize the information in your data table. – What purpose did sugar serve for the yeast? – What was the purpose of Cup 2 and Cup 8?

Lab Reports: Conclusion: – Based on your observations of the yeast cells under the microscope, your investigation of the gas produced by the yeast cells, and the picture of yeast cells at high magnification show below, what do you think yeast cells have in common with other living things? (Be sure to include evidence from this activity). – What problems did you have with the investigation? – What questions do you have as a result of conducting this investigation?
