Chapter Two Ecology

Ecology study of interactions between organisms and environment.

Ecology Biosphere- Portion of earth that supports life.

Abiotic Factors Abiotic Factors- Non living factors Soil, sun, air, water, temperature

Biotic Factors living organisms Plants, animals, fungi, protists, bacteria

Levels of Organization Population- group of organisms of one species living in same place.

Most of America 's population think its improper to spank children, so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of 'those moments.' One that I found effective is for me to just take the child for a car ride and talk. It removes us both from the situation and allows personal reflection and growth The children usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our car ride together. I've included a photo below of one of my sessions, in case you would like to use the technique.

Community collection of interacting populations.

Ecosystem Interacting populations in a community with all factors.

Biomes - terrestrial and aquatic

Biosphere

Habitat where an organism lives out its life.

Niche- The role and position a species has in its environment.

Symbiosis- relationship with close and permanent association among organisms of different species.

Types of Symbiosis Commensalism Mutualism Parasitism

Commensalism A symbiotic relationship in which one species benefits and the other species is neither benefited nor harmed.

Mutualism A symbiotic relationship in which both species benefit.

Parasitism A symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits while the other organism is harmed.

This little moth is the exclusive pollinator of the yuccas. Its larvae grow and feed on the tissues of the developing yucca fruits. Neither can exist without the other.
