Student Behaviors Be prompt  Be ready to learn when class begins. Be prepared  Have materials with you and know due dates. Be a polite and positive participant  Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. Be productive  Turn in work on time, and always do your best. Be a problem solver  Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

Show Respect Value yourself. Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values. Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect. Honor the ideas and opinions of others. Offer to help. Be responsible with property and belongings.

Responsibility for Coursework Bring notebook, planner, and appropriate writing tools to class. Know due dates, and submit all coursework on time. Important dates and information will be posted on the bulletin board. Assignments will be posted on the white board at the back of the room. Look at this board as you enter and leave the room. Come in, get settled and be ready to work when I start class.

Promote Lifelong Learning You can develop lifelong learning traits:  By showing curiosity about human nature and how the world works.  By seeking and valuing diversity.  By persisting in seeking out new solutions.  By using your unique talents and intelligence to promote positive change.  By learning and applying technology tools to solve problems.

Grading Will be graded on:  Class participation (effort)  Completion of assignments (daily work)(reading)  Major projects, exams, and self-reflection. Our Grading Scale % = A 85-92% = B 77-84% = C 70-76% = D Below 70% = F Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage and are rounded up whenever possible.

Lessons: Language Arts Unit are usually about three weeks long and includes the following activities: Literature/Novels Grammar/Vocabulary Activities Novel/Reading Assignment Paideia Seminar Writing Assignments Test/Project/Other Assessment The 1 st units are: Your Stories, Techno, What is It?, Metacognition (through mid-Oct)

Turning in Assignments To receive full credit, work must be placed in the green box on the shelf for your class by the end of the day that it is due. You lose 10 points of the total possible grade for each day that an assignment is late. All work must be labeled in the top right corner with the following information. First & Last Name Date Class of 2017 H.R. After a warning, you will lose points if your paper isn’t labeled!

Notebooks/Binders We will be using interactive notebooks for this class. They are a little confusing at first, but you will get the hang of it. The directions are available on the “Shared Documents” section of my website.
