1970’S: NIXON & WATERGATE Objective: SWBAT examine the cause & consequences of the Watergate Scandal by completing a chronology timeline. Purpose: “Our constitution works. Our great republic is a government of laws, not of men.” President Ford Standard(s): Students will describe the rise of the counterculture during the 1960s and assess the effectiveness of this movement in shaping public policy by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills Students will analyze how music, art, and literature reflected the social changes of the 1960s by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills. WARM-UP: TIMELINE REVIEW Copy the timeline on pages 1056 & 1057 onto the HUGE 70’s section. Start by filling in ALL of the American Events. Fill in 1971, 1973, & 1980 for World Events. 12 minutes.
