Check for Understanding Acceleration

Name 3 situations in which an object would be accelerating

What is the difference between the motion of the following two cars? 2. v v aa

If you throw a ball straight up into the air, as the ball travels upward, describe both the velocity and acceleration of the ball. 3.

Name 3 situations in which an object would be accelerating 1.When it is speeding up 2.When it is slowing down 3.When it is changing directions 1.

What is the difference between the motion of the following two cars? 2. v v aa The image on the Left is speeding up since the velocity and acceleration are both moving in the same direction. The image on the Right is slowing down because the direction of the velocity is opposite from the direction of the acceleration.

If you throw a ball straight up into the air, as the ball travels upward, describe both the velocity and acceleration of the ball. 3. While the ball travels upward, gravity is pulling the ball back down, so it is accelerating down. The ball is moving up, so the velocity is moving upward. Since the velocity and acceleration are not moving in the same direction, the ball is slowing down as it moves upward.
