The Wall is Built In June 1961 Nikita Khrushchev the leader of the Soviet Union asked that the U.S., France and Great Britain to leave West Berlin because of the many Germans leaving East Germany and going to West Berlin. In August 1961 the building of the Berlin Wall began. The Berlin Wall sealed the two sides from each other.

Walls Impact The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Cold War and the iron curtain of the spreading threat of communism in Europe.

The Fall of the Berlin Wall On November 9, 1989 the entrance between East and West Berlin was torn open. Over time citizens of Berlin tore away what had divided them for over 25 years.
