 Describe how wind turbines transfer the energy of the wind into electricity.  Compare and contrast two different types of wind turbines.  List several advantages and disadvantages for using wind power.  Use the engineering design process to create prototype wind turbines.

 Turbine Testing Base (wooden 2 x 4)  Multimeter (set it on DCV)  2 double-ended alligator clip wire test leads  Nails or Screws  Hammer and Screwdriver  Dowel Rods

 Supplies (string, hot glue, super glue, Elmer’s glue, construction paper, aluminum foil, clear plastic wrap, clear plastic transparencies, wax paper, corrugated plastic scraps, metal wire, fishing line, popsicle sticks, masking tape, … anything out of recycling bins (cardboard scraps, coke bottles,…)

 Scissors  Drill & Drill bits  Cutting knives and mats  a house or box fan with three-speed settings

 Two different kinds of wind turbines VAWT – Vertical axis wind turbine HAWT – Horizontal axis wind turbine
