Waste to Energy GIS, UTD Dr. Briggs Jian Huang

Waste to Energy Environmental waste could be converted to energy To find out where is a good place to establish the waste-to-energy facility stations Create a set of tools to support the analysis, such as density, overlay different layers. It’s like the suitability analysis of spatial analysis. Put all the tools as web application, which support multiple user to do the analysis at the same time.

ArcGIS Server What is ArcGIS Server –ArcGIS Server is a platform for building enterprise GIS applications that are centrally managed, support multiple users, include advanced GIS functionality (versus ArcIMS). –Developers can use ArcGIS Server to build Web applications, Web services, and other enterprise applications. –Developers can use ArcGIS Server to build desktop applications that interact with the server in client/server mode.

Benefits Low cost –multiple users can use the GIS application through web and saves the cost of installing desktop applications on each user’s machine. –Save technology support cost. You only need to maintain the GIS server system Customize for specific purpose –Most of GIS departments only need some specific analysis function. ArcGIS desktop provide so many function to satisfy different users. This complicated software package makes those who have not been systematically trained confusing. And after every update of software, the user interface and function change, then maybe got lost –With ArcGIS Server we can design our own userinterface for our specific purpose.

ArcObjects ArcObjcets provide a full function manipulation of ArcGIS. Another words, all the job that ArcMap, ArcCatalog and other ArcGIS component performance can be done by ArcObjects. ArcObjects is the development platform for the ArcGIS. So you can create your own tool for GIS analysis

Other Techniques Needed Microsoft Visual Studio.NET –New generation of program language. More powerful for web program. Microsoft ASP.NET –Active Server Page. –Visual Studio.NET and ASP.NET can create powerful web application and build dynamic web user interfaces. JavaScript –Process the client-side web application.

Previous Work and Literature Review the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has operated a substantial program in the development and encouragement of renewable energy technologies. – EPA: Decision Maker’s Guide to Solid Waste Management. Previous Work and Literature Review EPA’s biogas/methane recovery program – –AgSTAR is designed to reduce methane emissions by promoting the use of biogas recovery systems. A biogas recovery system is an anaerobic digester with biogas capture and combustion to produce electricity, heat or hot water. stringent environmental regulations that increased the capital cost necessary to construct and maintain municipal waste combustion facilities. –The Impact of Environmental Regulation on Capital Costs of Municipal Waste Combustion Facilities: , J.
