MASTER GUNNER COURSE TERMINAL LEARNING OBJECTIVE : TO IDENTIFY AND DEFINE ALL STEPS REQUIRED FOR ENGAGEMENT EXECUTION AS PART OF THE ENGAGEMENT PROCESS CONDITIONS: GIVEN A FM 23-1 AND WRITING EQUIPMENT IN A CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT STANDARDS: WITHIN 1 HOUR, THE STUDENT MUST SCORE 80% OR BETTER, ON A CLOSED BOOK EXAMINATION TO RECEIVE A PASSING SCORE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: NONE RISK ASSESMENT LEVEL: LOW ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS: NONE EVALUATION: UPON COMPLETION OF THIS SESSION YOU’LL BE EVALUATED WITH A WRITTEN EXAMINATION IAW FM YOU MUST RECEIVE A MININUM OF 80% TO GET A GO BEFORE RANGE WEEK STARTS. LEAD-IN : DURING THE LAST LESSON, YOU WERE TAUGHT ABOUT THE AQCUISITION PROCESS AND ENGAGEMENT DECISION. DURING THIS LESSON, YOU’LL LEARN ABOUT ENGAGEMENT EXECUTION.

MASTER GUNNER COURSE ENABLING LEARNING OBJECTIVES : The Enabling Learning Objectives that will be covered during this block of instruction are. - Identify and define the two methods of engagement - Define the observation terms and the crew response to those terms - Identify target lead criteria - Identify the 25mm point target engagement criteria and Techniques - Identify the 25mm area target engagement criteria and Techniques - Identify coax machine Gun engagement criteria and Techniques - Identify TOW missile engagement criteria and Techniques - Identify aerial engagement weapon criteria - Identify aerial engagement criteria and Techniques - Identify and explain engagement problem areas - Identify and define the four kill standards - Identify and define the armored vehicle kill standards

MASTER GUNNER COURSE ENABLING LEARNING OBJECTIVES : The Enabling Learning Objectives that will be covered during this block of instruction are. - Identify and define the unarmored vehicle kill standards - Identify and define the dismounted Infantry / Anti-armor system kill standards - Plan the distribution and control of direct fires

ENGAGEMENT EXECUTION The weapon systems on the Bradley are used to engage and destroy targets using direct precision and area fires. In order for crews to take advantage of the BFVs weapon systems to quickly lay, engage, and destroy threat targets, they must be experts in the methods and techniques of engagement execution. Methods of Engagement Engagement Techniques Engagement Termination

METHODS OF ENGAGEMENT ENGAGEMENTEXECUTION Once a target has been acquired and discriminated, the BC must determine which method to use to engage the target. Battlesight Gunnery Precision Gunnery

ENGAGEMENT TECHNIQUES ENGAGEMENTEXECUTION The Bradley Crew’s goal is to engage and destroy or suppress targets as fast as possible. The basic engagement procedure used for all engagements is:

ENGAGEMENTEXECUTION OBSERVATIONS An observation is an oral notation by the BC or gunner of where the round strikes in relation to the target.

SPECIAL USES OF MACHINEGUN FIRE Reconnaissance by fire is used to cause a hidden enemy to react. ENGAGEMENTEXECUTION

ENGAGEMENTEXECUTION SPECIAL USES OF MACHINEGUN FIRE Machine gun tracer ammunition can set fire to any readily combustible material, such as dry grass, grain, dried brush or wood.

SPECIAL USES OF MACHINE GUN FIRE ENGAGEMENTEXECUTION The coax machine gun can be used to penetrate most concealment used by dismounted personnel: trees, hasty barricades, or lightly constructed buildings.
