Collaborative & Strategic Working with the Voluntary & Community Sector Localism

Collaborative & Strategic Working Empowering communities, increasing accountability & scrutiny – how? Camden has over 2,000 organisations. Sector strongly committed to ‘bottom up’ & empowerment. It is a gateway to communities.

Collaborative & Strategic Working Community right to buy: Key in to existing organisations. Moratorium with a realistic time scale. Potential to underpin the sustainability of the sector and support innovation.

Collaborative & Strategic Working Diversify the supply of public services: Rights To Provide: Employers accept suitable proposals from staff who want to take over and run services. Collaborative working with the voluntary and community sector?

Collaborative & Strategic Working Community a right of challenge to run local authority services Only possible with strong community activity Potential for more flexible services – as opposed to ‘one size fits all’. Greater opportunities for community control and delivery of services.

Collaborative & Strategic Working Community Budgets – pooling of budgets to tackle cross cutting issues Commissioning decisions taken as close as possible to the point of need – community commissioning? Contradiction with push for ‘fewer and larger contracts’?

Collaborative & Strategic Working Focus on outcomes Welcome development in relation to ‘people services’ Payment by results – does this contradict the push to localism and local service delivery?

Collaborative & Strategic Working Key Debating Point Localism - Cuts in public spending OR The best use of resources – no matter what the financial picture?
