EQUATION OF A CIRCLE Geometry

How can we make a circle? What are the most important aspects when drawing a circle?

Why is the center important? Suppose we have a circle with A(0,0) as the center and B( √3, 1) as a point on the circle. What information can you determine about the circle? The radius of the circle is 2. Suppose C(√2,√2) is also on the circle. What is it’s distance from the center? C is also 2 units from the center

Why is the radius important? Suppose the center of a circle is at A(1,1), and B(4,-3) and C(-2,5) are points on the circle. What is the radius of the circle? The radius of the circle is 5.

The Equation of a Circle

Practice

Suppose there is a circle with a center of (2,3) and a radius of 4. Write the standard equation for the circle. (x-2) ²+(y-3)² = 4² (x-2) ²+(y-3)² = 16
