Abstinence The choice is yours…

Learning Goal Define abstinence and explain the benefits of choosing abstinence as a teenager. What do you know? What do you want to know?

Abstinence Works! What are my beliefs about pre-marital sex? Activity: Take out a sheet of paper and answer the following questions… What are my beliefs about pre-marital sex? Am I giving/receiving pressure to engage in sexual behavior ? How would you feel about yourself if you engaged in sexual activity? Are you prepared to deal with an unplanned pregnancy? What would you do if you found out you had an STI? How would being a teen parent affect your goals? Abstinence Works!

Abstinence, or abstaining from sexual activity and intercourse, does not mean doing without intimacy until marriage. Intimacy, or a closeness between two people that develops over time, can still be achieved.

Benefits of Abstinence: -Eliminates both partner’s risk of contracting STI’s. -It is the only 100% effective method to avoid unplanned pregnancy. -Allows you to uphold your personal values and identify if your partner’s values align with yours -Allows you to build a deeper connection with your partner

Is choosing abstinence a reality? For this activity, please sit quietly in your seats with your eyes closed and imagine the scene I am about to read you. Play Music Read Scene… What would you do?
