Captions Also known as cutlines, they tell the story behind the picture

How to write captions Study the photograph. Write one sentence explaining what the photo is about. Example: Senior running back Slippery Rock evades two Anteater tacklers to score the winning TD. Tell the story behind the photo. to score the winning TD. Identify everyone by complete name and title. Senior running back Slippery Rock

How to write captions Identify everyone clearly seen in the photo. Exception: if there are more than 7 people in a crowd scene you do not have to identify individuals Do not state the obvious. Answer the Who, What, Where, When, Why, How questions. Write in complete sentences.

How to design captions Begin with a lead-in word or phrase Example: COMING THROUGH—Senior running back Slippery Rock evades... Select CUTLINE style from Style Palette and apply it to the caption text. Place underneath the photo. Place credit line beneath caption.
