Cont. Young adults are more likely to cause or have an accident while using their cell phone and driving. What are the Keywords?

Citation Technology and teen drivers. John D. Lee. Journal of Safety Research, Mar2007, Vol. 38 Issue 2, p ,

Citation Hang Up and Get Moving. By: Holden, Constance. Science, 1/11/2008, Vol. 319 Issue 5860, p

Conclusion Ask students if they have any questions. Encourage them to feel comfortable asking for assistance either at the Information Desk, contacting the Instruction Office, or via our Ask a Librarian service. Proceed to explain the group exercise.

Group Activity Explanation See notes

Activity Instructions Using the research question assigned to your group, answer the following questions: 1.What keywords would you use to conduct your search? What different keywords combinations and synonyms might you use? 2.Conduct an advanced search in Academic Search Complete using your keywords. How many results did you get? 3.Narrow your initial search results two different ways, however you would like. Make a note of how you narrowed your search and why you chose that option.

Activity Instructions Cont. 4.How many results did you get after narrowing your search? 5.Select an article record and write down the complete citation. 6.Access the article record. What subject terms from this article might you use to search by? 7.Is this article available in full text? What format(s)? 8.Select an article not available in full text in Academic Search Complete. Is it available through SFX?

Activity Instructions Cont. 8b. If so, in what database were you able to locate the full text article? 8c. If not, what is the next step in the process you would use to locate the article? Be specific about the steps used. Go through the entire process of locating the full text article. What is your end result?

Activity Introduction to Databases Worksheet Research Questions: 1. How do advertisers market their products to women? 2. What factors contribute to an increased risk of asthma among children? 3. What are the business and residential economic impacts of so-called Big Box stores such as Wal-Mart and Home Depot on small, rural communities?

Research Questions Cont. 4. The rise in childhood obesity can be directly linked to vending machines in schools. 5. What economic affects do smoking bans have on public places? 6. How does the author George Orwell use themes of totalitarianism and propaganda in his literature? 7.
