2 50% of Ph.D graduates are never able to publish a single article in any top journal If you are publishing one article per year in any top journal, you are in the top 5% of Ph.D faculty (Boyd et al, SMJ, 2005) On average, it takes about 7 years to move an idea to a printed article Rewards for top pubs are immense [e.g., $100K annuity per A article (Gomez-Meija & Balkin, AMJ, 1992)] Publishing Facts

3 Top 1% of scholars - 14 articles in top journals within 10 years from Ph.D

4 Publishing in top journals requires a lot of effort, and time, and skill ….. and some luck …. but the rewards are great

5 As you plan the research project, keep in mind the high standards of the journal Use journal target norms as a yardstick to ensure no corners are cut in data collection and methods
