Standardization activities on Wireless Access in CCSA CCSA DOCUMENT #:GSC13-GRSC6-18 FOR:Presentation SOURCE:CCSA AGENDA ITEM:GRSC; 4.2 Submission Date: July 1, 2008
SCDMA (Synchronous CDMA) is the wireless access technology more Focus on the local network deployment and Universal Service CCSA is pushing and in charge of the standardization of SCDMA Two versions of the SCDMA –Narrow band SCDMA Radio Access System Voice and low data rate limited roaming within one city area 400MHz and 1800MHz for rural and city deployment respectively –Wide band SCDMA Radio Access system VoIP and high data rate OFDM based system Focus on providing high efficient voice and data services to rural areas and private networks Standardization on Wide band SCDMA is ongoing in WG3/TC5/CCSA Standardization on Narrow band of SCDMA was finished Highlight of Current Activities (1)
Developing Standards on inter-working between wireless systems and cellular systems Demands with different scenarios should to be met by the combination of different technologies –Broadband wireless access system provide high data rate, limited coverage and mobility services –Cellular system (eg 2G/3G) provide QoS guaranteed voice and low date rate services with wide coverage and high mobility Activities on this topic in CCSA –Study report on Inter-working between WLAN and 3GPP/3GPP2 –Study report on Inter-working between WiMAX and 3GPP –Considering a new study item for Inter-working between WiMAX and 3GPP2 system. Highlight of Current Activities (2)
Highlight of Current Activities (3) Standard research on short range wireless communication –Standardization on Telecom-based short range wireless requirements Short Range Wireless technology is an important member of the wireless access family. –Play a important role in wireless sensor network and ubiquitous network –We pay more attention on Telecom value-added services based on Short Range Wireless
Strategic Direction (1) Developing standards of SCDMA to meet the requirements of Universal Service –Low cost BWA system for rural communication Wide coverage, convenient maintenance, low cost Voice+data Two phases of the standardization of SCDMA –Phase1: finish the development of the narrow band SCDMA (done) –Phase2: finish the development of the broad band SCDMA (active) Begin with air interface protocol and system requirement Then specification of the equipments including base station, terminal and others
Strategic Direction (2) Standardization research on the inter-working between BWA and cellular system –Different broadband wireless access technologies work together ; Multiplicity coverage method ( hotspots, hot zone, nomadic and limited mobile) data-oriented Complement with mobile network –Two phases of the standard research of the inter-working Loose coupling –Common AAA ( Accounting, Authentication and Authorization ) Close coupling –Seamless handover between different systems
Challenges SCDMA –How to standardize the core network of SCDMA system need to be studied. –Need the further study on the requirements of Universal Service and the impact on the standards Inter-working –Several SDOs are related with this topic 3GPP, 3GPP2, IEEE, etc –The work within each SDO shall be aligned with each other Communication and collaboration Telecom-based short range wireless –Need further study on the application scenarios
Next Steps/Actions Complete the current active items –Standards of Broad band SCDMA –Study reports on inter-working between BWA and 3G systems –Finish the standardization of the Telecom-based short range wireless Further communication and collaboration with other SDOs and forums –3GPP, 3GPP2, IEEE, WiMAX forum, Zigbee Alliance –Other counties’ SDO
