Read through the following slides and fill out your study guide
1. THE INSERT MENU Allows you to insert things like tables, pictures, shapes, word art, headers, footers, page numbers, and symbols
To insert a table, use the Insert Menu and look for the Table button. From there you can alter the size and information in the table. Rows Columns Cell
3. Pictures-allows you to insert a picture saved on your computer 4. Online Pictures-allows you to insert a picture from online
5. Shapes-allows you to insert a shape into your document 6. Charts- allows you to insert a visual representati on of data
7. Header: one or more lines of text that appear at the top of every page of a document and often includes information like names and titles. Selecting the Header button will give you several formats to chose from. 8. Footer: one or more lines of text that appear at the bottom of every page of a document and often includes the page number. Selecting the Footer button will give you several formats to chose from. 9. Page number: allows to you to insert a page number in your document. Selecting the Page Number button will give you several formats and page locations to chose from.
11. Text box: a box that you can enter text and place inside a document. 10. Word Art: decorative text as a graphic image.
Provides tools for checking spelling and grammar, a dictionary and thesaurus, translate, and revising. 14. THE REVIEW MENU
Will check spelling in your document. It will also indicate incorrect grammar. A misspelled word is indicated by a red squiggly line below it. A grammar problem is indicated by a blue squiggly line 15. SPELLING AND GRAMMAR
16. THESAURUS A collection of words and their synonyms, similar to a dictionary Select the word and click on the Thesaurus button. A side bar will open with a list of words that are similar (synonyms) as well as some words that are the opposite (antonym)
Counts the number of words, characters, and paragraphs in a document or selection of text. 17. WORD COUNT
18. TRANSLATE This allows for words or paragraphs to be translated using a bilingual dictionary. Select the text to translate, click the Translate button, and a side bar will open which gives you options. You can select which language to translate into, then click insert.
This lets someone add a comment to your document. You can then read it, or delete it. Select the text to comment, push the comment button, then type your comment in the box. 19. COMMENT
As you revise a document, you can keep track of the changes you make. Then you can decide to accept or reject the changes. 20. TRACKING
Lets you decide how to view your document. 21. THE VIEW MENU
This will let you change type of view. Read mode is a full screen view Print Layout is the WYSIWYG standard view. It shows you how the document will look when printed. 22. VIEWS
23. RULER A ruler will show up at the top and left side of your screen. You can use to see your margins, indents, and for adjusting images on the screen
When checked, a grid will appear on your screen.
Zoom-you can make the document appear larger or smaller. One Page-click this will allow you to see one page at a time. Multiple Pages-clicking this will let you see many pages at once. Page Width-clicking this will zoom in the document so it fits the width of the screen.
