Model of perfect paragraph #2 Times New Roman – size 12 The geography of Italy greatly influenced the way the Italians and more specifically, the Romans lived. First, its location influenced the Italian economy as it became a trade center. According to the textbook, “Italy is centrally located in the Mediterranean region. People can easily travel to it from Africa, Asia, and Europe.” Second, the mountain slopes level off to large flat plains that are perfect for growing crops in their fertile soil. This influenced the way the Romans grew their crops and fed their people. The textbook states, “Italy has a sunny, mild climate and fertile farmland. With the ability to grow plenty of food, Italy could support a large population.” Third, the river system in Italy was perfect for transportation and protection. On page 307 it says, “Rome was founded about 15 miles up the Tiber River from the Mediterranean Sea. People used the river to move goods easily between northern and southern Italy and could ship their goods out to the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, Rome was far enough up the Tiber River to escape raids by sea-going pirates. Rome’s steep hills made it easy to defend against enemy attacks.” The geography of Italy greatly influenced the way the Italians traded, fed their population and defended themselves.
