Lesson 42: The Book of Hebrews Scriptures in quotation marks are taken from the KING JAMES VERSION of the Bible.

1. (1:4) He has inherited a name more excellent than they [King of Kings]. 2. (1:5) He is God’s Son. 3. (1:6) Angels worship Him. 4. (1:13) He sits on the right hand of God.

7:1 – Melchizedek 7:1-3 – He was without father or mother, having neither beginning of days (birth) nor end of days (death).

Genesis 5:24 – Enoch (God took him--perhaps raptured.) 2 Kings 2:11 – Elijah (He went to heaven in a whirlwind.) Hebrews 7:3 – Melchizedek

Hebrews 8:1-6 – Jesus is at the “right hand” of God in “the true tabernacle.” He offered the final sacrifice that earthly sacrifices only foreshadowed.

1. (10:1-4) OT sacrifices were never enough because the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sin. 2. (10:5-10) Christ’s sacrifice is the only one that can make us holy. 3. (10:11-18) Through Christ’s sacrifice our sins are forgiven, and there is no longer any need for the sacrifice of sin.

10:19 – To go into the presence of God because of Christ’s sacrifice 11:1 – Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 11:6 – “Without faith it is impossible to please” God.

1. (11:24) “Refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter” 2. (11:25) Chose “rather to suffer” with the children of God 3. (11:27) Left Egypt, not fearing the Pharaoh 4. (11:29) “Passed through the Red Sea”

Heb. 11:23 & 27, 2 Tim. 1:7 – Fear, which is the opposite of faith Hebrews 12:1-2 – We should lay aside everything that hinders us and run with endurance “the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
