France

Land and Climate France’s land is 211,208 square miles. Southern France has warm/moist winters and hot/dry summers France is barely smaller than Texas. The land is made out of plains, mountains, forest, and farmlands. East of France is Italy and Germany. South and a bit West of France is Spain. Above France is United Kingdom France has a little island called Corsica. French extends to Corsica island as well as 10 overseas and territories.

History In 987 France was emerged as one of the empires successor kingdoms. English and France had a one hundred year war, it lasted In the late 1600s, France dominated Europe. Napoleon Bonaparte took power, declaring himself emperor in In 1814, Prussians and Austrians forces seized Paris, Napoleon was exiled. The French revolution marks a milestone in world history. The monarchy was restored but followed by a second republic in The Defeat at hands of Germany led to the third republic in France was a huge battleground during both world wars. In 1946 the fourth republic was declared. After a referendum in 1958 a new constitution for a fifth republic was approved.

Personal appearance The French dress well and very fashionably. Paris is known for the worlds leading fashion designers. They dress more formal than any other country. When the French wear dresses its more casual than it is fancy.

Eating Etiquette is very important to the French. (polite behavior) When they eat they always have two hands above or on the table. Men usually rest their wrist on the edge of the table. Woman usually rest their elbows on the edge of the table. They don’t talk when you have food in your mouth. They eat with a fork in their left hand and a knife in their right. If they have a formal lunch or dinner is must last more than two hours and have 8 to 12 courses. If a group of people want to eat put at a restaurant the person who suggested it is the person who pays for it all.

Greetings Its customary to shake hands upon greeting someone. When French does a hand shake its very light and quick. The woman never offers the hand shake, she waits until the man offers her a hand. When friends have a get together they men friends usually kiss the woman on both cheeks. If a persons hands are dirty or wet they offer to shake with their arms or elbows.

Dating and Marriage French teens are allowed to date at age fifteen. If they go on dates its usually at movies or dances. French teens usually don’t have jobs, that’s why their finances for activates are limited.

Diet The French cook books date back to the middle ages. They still use the old cook books because they were good cookers back at that time. The French usually eat a light and little breakfast with coffee. Lunch used to be the main meal of the day. The urban society is different and now people eat light lunches. They usually have lunch around noon or one. Dinner is never before nine pm. The French tries to resist foreign fast food because they worried about everybody's health.

Holidays French celebrates (Etrennes) which is New Years January 1st. They present flowers to older family members. They go around giving kids presents & exchange gifts. Fete de la Federation is July, 14 th It’s a celebration to commemorate the first anniversary of the storming of the bastille.

Government The French republic has twenty two subdivided into ninety six departments. The Capital is Paris. French’s time is six hours ahead of Washington D.C. They have 21 regions. The President is François Hollande. The French flag colors are red, white, and blue.

Economy France has the fourth largest industrial economy. France is a world leader in wine, milk, butter, cheese, and wheat production. Major industries include textile, aircraft, motor vehicles, steel, chemicals, and food processing. France attracts more tourist than any other place in the world. Its known for its fashion and the Eiffel tower.
