CEA Empowers Consumers to Be Green 2006 CEA survey underscores need for more information on consumer choices. No centrally available resource to provide reliable, accurate and timely information to consumers about reuse, recycling, proper disposal, proper use of electronics CEA survey underscores need for more information on consumer choices. No centrally available resource to provide reliable, accurate and timely information to consumers about reuse, recycling, proper disposal, proper use of electronics.

Specific Challenges faced by consumers when it comes to electronics end-of-life: –Not aware of recycling opportunities; –Unsure about procedures for disposal; –Little known about corporate recycling programs; –Electronics recycling seems difficult and inconvenient, even costly; –To find recycling opportunities; –Which products have superior environmental design and energy efficiency. CEA Empowers Consumers to Be Green

Launched at 2007 International CES. Recycler Locator. Energy Calculator. Green Products Database (Soon to be Expanded!) Corporate Programs (Soon to be Expanded!) Recycling Event Calendar (Coming Soon!) Partnership Information (Coming Soon!) Energy Saving Tips, Tips for Reuse, Donation Opportunities, More!

Current Challenges Given growing awareness and importance about incorporating ‘green’ actions into consumers’ purchasing and lifestyle, there is a need to constantly expand and adapt website. This includes: –Continuously updating recycler tool; –Maintaining current/relevant/reliable information/tips/partnership information and corporate program information; –Tracking green products through database.

CEA is currently examining updates to green products database, which may include more reference/information on EPEAT and Energy Star, and other successful voluntary programs for manufacturers. Overall challenge for industry is to educate consumers about: –What our industry is doing to stay ‘green’; –Provide accurate and timely information about energy savings opportunities; –Provide resources to encourage/allow consumers to recycle/reuse their products safely and conveniently. Current Challenges

Opportunities for Partnership Need exists for similar web portals globally. CEA considering mechanics of rolling out outside of U.S. Ideas/Suggestions Welcome!
