Spelling Lesson 7 Spelling Two-Syllable Words

Monday There is a vowel sound in each syllable of a word. Look at the letters that spell the vowel sounds in this week’s Core Words Write the spelling words. Circle the letters that spell the vowel sound in each syllable.

Tuesday The Flying Dentist Deep in the desert, people sometimes need the help of Dr. Rosen, the flying (1). When people’s teeth ache, they (2) her. She climbs into her plane ready to visit anyone who needs her. When she turns on the engine, the plane buzzes like an (3). Many patients are in great pain (4) Dr. Rosen arrives.

First she spreads her instruments out on a clean cloth (5). She works without (6), never talking until she finds the cause of the trouble. Sometimes people feel as if they bit into a (7), but it is only Dr. Rosen’s needle. Sometimes people who are afraid (8) she leave the aching tooth alone. But a bad tooth might infect a whole mouth. The dentist must take care of the trouble. She sometimes gives her patients a tooth- cleaning (9) to try.
