International maritime line transport service: establishment of a passengers hydrofoil line across the Adriatic, connecting Trieste with Piran (Slovenia), Rovinj and Pula (Croatia) EA SEA-WAY National Conference Trieste, 03/12/2015

MAIN GOALS - designing and activating new passengers lines connecting Trieste with other Adriatic ports; -improving the international maritime public transport services along the coasts of the Northern Adriatic; - testing via a real passenger service the improvement of mobility on a large cross-border area and the related accessibility during the summertime season, for shifting traffic from road to sea; -contributing in reducing road traffic congestion with a positive impact on the environment.

Enhance the quality of transport by shortening distances and reducing the timetable with an hydrofoil line. The passenger maritime public transport service was launched on June 28 th, 2015 and had a frequency of 6 days per week, with a schedule of calls different from weekdays and weekends until August 23 rd. From August 24 th until September 1 st, 2015 the service had an extension co-financed only by regional funds, outside the framework of EA SEA-WAY project. PILOT ACTIVITIES DESCRIPTION (1)

Phase n. 1 “Design of the service”: Setting up of the procedure for defining the service and the service provider and preparing all promotional related activities; Phase n. 2 - Step n. 1 “Start of the service” Launch of the service on June 28 th with the organization of an Open day for presenting the project & the service; Phase n. 2 - Step n. 2 “Evaluation of the service” Evaluation of the service results collecting statistics, making recommendations for its further development, outside the project framework. The company which provided the service was the Trieste Lines srl, selected in 2011 via an open public tender at UE level, based on a regional regulation approved by EU commission (vessel’s capacity: 180 pax)
