Providing Access to Clean Water
Working together in a research group Communicate - Share ideas with one another Discuss - Figure out which ideas sound the best Apply - Try your ideas out, don’t be afraid to fail
To be a scientist/engineer you have to be willing to fail ●I spent the first year of my PhD trying to control the density of the ZnO nanowires I use for my solar cells ●We wanted the make larger spacing between the wires so that we could add more layers of material to absorb light
I never got it to work! ●I was never able to control their density ●However, I learned how to deposit these nanospheres made of polystyrene (styrofoam) ●Someone else in my lab group used it to improve their project
Water Filtration Redesign Before we go into lab spend 10 minutes discussing with your new group about your new water filter design. What worked last time? What didn’t work last time? Sketch your design
Water Filtration Redesign Make sure that you are working together as a group After 12 minutes of working in the lab we’ll stop and take a few minutes for each member of the group to share their ideas.
