Upgrade Week Next week is ATLAS Upgade Week. Muon & TDAQ session: Tue 9-13h, 15-16h NSW talk in Phase-1 Plenary on Thursday afternoon will be given by George Iakovidis 29 Oct 2014 S. Zimmermann, NSW SG 2

2015 Muon/NSW Week dates March 9–13 (Dirac except Monday Curie) June 1–5 (Curie) September 28–October 2 (Curie) October 12–16 (Dirac) December 7–11 (Curie) 29 Oct 2014 S. Zimmermann, NSW SG 3 Clashed with INFN Gruppo Uno jamboree – request in IB to avoid Outside week will be not easy to accommodate … New October NSW week slot is now directly after ATLAS week in Lecce, ATLAS management discourages outside meetings until July 2015 …

SCAB Nominations for Speakers It’s time once again for the twice yearly update of nominations for the ATLAS speakers for conferences. – Require names and priority ranking, from 1 (deserves a talk very much, outstanding contribution to the project in the last year) to 5. Usually we rank people 1-3. – People who stopped being actively involved: Will not update the nominations, priority will automatically go down by 1 every round List of nominations from May 2014 is attached to the agenda Please have a look and send me updated suggestions, and especially names of people newly to be added – by end of next week 29 Oct 2014 S. Zimmermann, NSW SG 4

NSW Week: Decisions and Action Items Summary of Decisions or quasi-decisions: 1.Number of B-field sensors: – converged to 64 sensors per side. – AI: exact positions to be defined and integrated into layout/drawings 2.Temperature Sensors: – Have a baseline inventory on needed sensors – indicate either 1 or 2 ELMBs per sector needed (exact numbers as long as within max. of ELMB can be defined a bit later together with sensor positions) – AI: NIKHEF and Alignment team to compare cost and space requirements of electronics if a) 2 ELMBs/sector or b) additional T-sensors for deformation read by LWDAQ. (Gerian, Christoph, Jim) 3.NSW Grounding strategy and architecture --- Document from GNDing WG approved in the meeting, AI: 1. Clarification on MM FEB analog GND 2. How to ensure commitment of all stakeholders to adhere to it ? 29 Oct 2014 S. Zimmermann, NSW SG 5

NSW Week: Decisions and Action Items Follow-Up and Action Items, Open Points 1.MicroMegas Module-0 panel layout interconnect positions are not fully compatible with alignment system needs for supporting platforms – AI: Define how to resolve – AI: Timescale – AI: Decision on In-Plane alignment ? 2.MicroMegas detector Ground connection/FEB detector GND connection – Proposal of GND near Cooling channel implies GND not in direct vicinity of VMM – Noise ? – MMFE demonstrator design is with GND near front edge of the card – AI: Clarify latest design, make sure everybody is in the loop 3.MicroMegas Quadruplet section mock-up, zebra connector compression and FEB insertion/alignment – Freiburg can offer workshop/technicians for construction – AI: Define details and schedule. 29 Oct 2014 S. Zimmermann, NSW SG 6

NSW Week: Decisions and Action Items 4.Expansion/deformation of FR4 (with/without copper on both side) under humidity … raised in design review – AI: Tests to be done in the lab. WHO ? 5.MMFE frontend board schedule shown by Ken – AI: Arrange dedicated meeting for discussing – AI: Demonstrator V1 production needs to include sufficient boards to allow test sites setting up and commissioning cosmics test stand etc. 29 Oct 2014 S. Zimmermann, NSW SG 7

NSW Week: Decisions and Action Items 6.MSW – Completion of Services, Cables, Fibers – AI: Status ? Before closure of UX15 end of November. – AI: Discuss with TC installation options for the chamber in January 7.MSW Software – Long wish list presented by Nectarios of “what could be done” – AI: Define realistic priority list and assign (limited) existing manpower 8.MSW DAQ Integration into ATLAS partition – Setting up standalone readout well advanced – AI: Official request to ATLAS RunCoord concerning ATLAS partition plans during run time, presentation in run meeting 9)VMM2 evaluation results, VMM2a or VMM3 as next step decision 29 Oct 2014 S. Zimmermann, NSW SG 8

NSW Week: Decisions and Action Items 10.Completion of Electronics Boxes inventory, size and shape constraints, boxes placement – Aimilianos secured to remain with us or full 2015, – AI: need to get him integrated with Design Office asap 11.Logistics Handling 12.BB5 Cleanup 13.MicroMegas mesh cleaning needed or not decision 14.Radiation and ageing qualification of materials plans and needs – Zebra connector neutron and gamma irradiation studies – South Africa ? – MicroMegas glue qualification – … ? – AI: Arrange meeting to define roadmap, decide on South Africa or Michigan for neutron radiation 29 Oct 2014 S. Zimmermann, NSW SG 9
