Recovery Factories Farms and Financial Institutions

Help for the nation’s economy Emergency Banking Relief Act FDR shut the banks down so people could not drain them. He sent inspectors in to make sure the banks would survive if reopened. NIRA The National Industrial Recovery Act. This allowed for trade associations to set minimum wage, regulation of working conditions, production quotas and prices. This was a short term solution that was later declared unconstitutional. Economy Act Cut federal salaries and veteran’s pensions to balance the budget.

TVA- Tennessee Valley Authority This provided assistance to farmers and rural people that were not as “modern”. The TVA used a dam to provide electricity, flood control, and recreational/tourist opportunities. They also helped farmers produce more from fields that were over-farmed, and provided fertilizers.

NRA- National Recovery Administration This was set up to combat the problems of low wages, layoffs, and falling prices. It established price fixing to ensure competition, production limits, and standards of working conditions.

FUN FACT The Philadelphia Eagles used to be named the Frankford Yellow Jackets. In 1933 they moved to Philly and changed their name to the Eagles and used the NRA’s symbol as their eagle.
