Kids develop more fully socially, physically, academically, emotionally, and spiritually when they have a positive male role model ACTIVELY ENGAGED in their life. One path to aid you is through WatchD.O.G.S.

WATCH D.O.G.S. ® is a safe school initiative of the N ATIONAL C ENTER FOR F ATHERING (Fathers.com) founded by Jim Moore, a concerned father who chose to take action in response to a 1998 middle- school shooting in Jonesboro, AR. Partnered with National PTA, State PTA, local PTA, and YOUR Phillips PTA recognized by DoE and U.S. Congress for the effectiveness of the program More than 4,704 active programs in 46 states

Goal: Engage men, inspire children, reduce bullying and enhance the educational environment at your school. Goal: provide positive male role models for the students and to serve as an unobtrusive security presence

Allow dads to get a better understanding of their child’s day at school Increase father involvement at Phillips Elementary Decrease student behavioral problems Increase student achievement Help promote a safe and positive learning environment for the children Smiles and high fives!

YOU! Fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other male adults who volunteer at their child’s school for one (or more) days each year to assist in a variety of school activities Not limited to full day activities! Carpool Boosterthon Lunchtime mentoring Walk to school day Community events

“What men have to offer is not better than what the moms have to offer and have been doing and will continue to do. It’s different, it is unique, it’s the other half, and in too many cases it’s missing, especially in Education. If there were a shortage of positive female role models in education, someone hopefully would be addressing that. THANKFULLY that is not the case.” -National Center for Fathering

Assist with drop off in the morning & pickup in the afternoon Reading to classes Doing flash cards Playing at recess Eating lunch with students Any additional activities assigned

7:15 am – Check-in at the front office Help with carpool line Participate in morning announcements Get your assigned Pod / tasks for the day Have recess / lunch / specials with your student 2:30 pm on-line survey in front office Dismissal / Carpool until 3:05 pm Picture with your kid(s) – wall of fame

BE APPROACHABLE!—smile, talk to and listen to the students BE SMART!—follow the school’s policy on appropriate conduct and behavior with the students and faculty BE ALERT!—if a situation arises, please report it to a school official starting with the Assistant Principal BE AVAILABLE!—the goal is to be of service to the school, teachers, and students BE A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL!
