What is partial participation?  Refers to the opportunity to participate in an activity, even though you may not have all the skills or abilities necessary to do it independently.

Everyday Example… Local cooking school ad :  Demonstration: students observe instructor  Partial Participation: students help with some of the food prep  Hands-on: students cook under the guidance of instructor

Partial participation…  Even if a person cannot do all the steps in an activity, that’s okay.  They can learn one step and increase their participation.

Silent Reading Time Learning to use arrow key to turn pages of a recorded book

Partial Participation… A valuable idea!  It improves quality of life  Person is more independent  Person is more self-determined

Ask yourself…..  Is the person excluded from an activity because they can’t do all the skills needed to take part?

Ask yourself…  How can the person participate in activity? Wii Bowling

The idea is not to have each person participate in the same manner, but rather for every person to participate at his or her own successful level!

Partial participation happens when a person participates actively in activities each day! You can make it happen!
