 Information literacy instruction helps students develop a set of skills to comprehend and use information sources - inside and beyond the library - to fulfill information needs in academia, the workplace, and for lifelong learning.  These skills help develop productive citizens by enabling them to analyze information and to make informed decisions.  The library offers information literacy instruction sessions for ALL SUBJECT areas. INFORMATION LITERACY SESSION OVERVIEW PGCC Library - Accokeek Hall

 Develop a research question or research statement  Identify keywords and select them from the search statement/question  Develop several search strategies using Boolean operators INFORMATION COVERED DURING A SESSION  Search general or specific databases  Evaluate resources  Distinguish between a peer- reviewed journal and a magazine  Overview of citation guidelines PGCC Library - Accokeek Hall

 In addition, each session provides hands-on time:  students can commence their research  a librarian is present who can answer questions  Each session is tailored to a specific class assignment. PGCC Library - Accokeek Hall

 Face-to-Face  1 day session  50 or 75 minutes  At the library (Accokeek Hall Rm. 109 or at your extension center.)  Blackboard  A guest librarian embedded into your online course for a specific time period FORMAT  The library offers two types of information literacy instruction: PGCC Library - Accokeek Hall
