Future Simple

What is similar?  Tomorrow, I will swim in a pool.  Next year, he will study at the university.  In 2012, I will be 33 years old.  She will see her children this afternoon.

YES! All of them have the word “will”

The future simple is used to talk about something that will happen in the FUTURE!

 We use the word “will” to show that a person will do something.  We also use the word “will” when we make promises. I will do my homework when I get home later today. I will call you tonight. The word WILL

The Future Simple Form  Tomorrow, I will swim in a pool. subjectwillV1 subject + will + V1

Let’s practice….  She ________ _________ (dance) at the birthday party tomorrow.  They ________ _________ (sing).  We _________ __________ (buy) presents for the birthday boy.  It __________ __________ (be) great! will dance willsing willbuy willbe

Those were all positive statements… What if we wanted to say them in the negative form?

Negative statements  She ______ ______ ______ (dance) at the birthday party tomorrow.  They ______ ______ _______(sing).  We _____ ______ ______ (buy) presents for the birthday boy.  It ______ ______ ________ (be) great! will not dance will not sing will notbuy will not be

Negative Form subject + will + not + V1

YES/NO Questions When we ask a yes/no question in the future form, we need to move the “will” to the beginning of the sentence…..

Examples:  She will clean her room. Will she clean her room? YES, NO, she will she will not

Now turn these statements into yes/no questions…  He will run at the competition.  I will be a good girl.  We will not dance. Will he run at the competition? Will I be a good girl? Will we not dance?

WH questions….  To create a WH question in the future form, we have to add the WH word in the beginning….

 We take the form of the yes/no question and add a WH word in front of it…. Yes/No question: Will she clean her room tomorrow? Wh question: How will she clean her room tomorrow? WH word YES/NO question

Your turn….  Why / she / cry / during the movie?  When / he / come home / tonight ?  Where / we / sleep / tomorrow? Why will she cry during the movie? When will he come home tonight? Where will we sleep tomorrow?

SONG TIME! Que Sera Sera

There is also another way to say something in the future…  I am going to party tonight.  He is going to sing.  They are going to dance.

To be going to…  We use the words “going to” in the future simple when something is planned ( מתוכנן ), when there is a future plan to do something. We are going to drive to Tel Aviv on Saturday.

To be going to… subject + am/is/are + going to + V1 I am going to party. He is going to sing. We are going to dance.

So… we can say:  She will clean her room.  She is going to clean her room. היא תנקה את החדר שלה. היא הולכת לנקות את החדר שלה.

And in the negative:  She will not clean her room.  She is not going to clean her room.

To be going to – YES/NO questions  She is going to clean her room. Is she going to clean her room? Am/ Is/ Are + subject + going to + V1

To be going to - WH questions  She is going to clean her room. Why is she going to clean her room? When is she going to clean her room? How is she going to clean her room?

Time Expressions…  There are certain time expressions that let us know we are talking about the future…

tomorrow next the following soon later in I will do it I will fly to Rome week I am going to visit my friend He is going to be very angrytwo minutes They are going to speak We will drive to Tel Aviv day מחר בקרוב ב... הבא העוקב, הבא אחריו מאוחר יותר
