Private Sector Administration Universities Technology Transfer Research Innovation Disemination Internet i2CAT Foundation Fi2CAT Misión: a private non-profit Foundation whose aim is the boost of Research & Innovation on the Internet second generation environment. Financing: Department of Research and Universities of the local Government, private sector and from pre-competitive projects Goals: –Promote advanced networks research and broadband application and increasing its practice. –Create new cooperation platforms between the private sector and the university researcher environment. –Pushing teamwork between world wide institutions and societies with similar objectives to networking. Model: is based on the collaboration between the public, private sectors and the academic environment, setting up an innovative Triple Helix model (Loet Leydesdorff) in the Information and Communication Technologies.

Interconnection of existing European test-beds for experimental purposes based on UCLP The Proposal: Interconnection of existing European test-beds for experimental purposes based on UCLP Canada Sensor facilities Storage Center

Objectives I User oriented/friendly. Adapt UCLP to particular users/scenarios Deploy a system which abstracts the network resources as objects to the user (UCLP) Provide a large scale experimental scenario, not for services, yes to experiment. Its target might be the research community An experimental opened platform where user communities, manufacturers, and IST projects… may test and evaluate and improve their developments, equipment,… Allow institutions, new communities to integrate wavelengths and fiber from different suppliers and integrate with institution's network management domain. Collaborate with NREN, GN2 and GLIF for connectivity. Integration of different existent test-beds with different technologies under a common system. Interoperability

Objectives II A new Concept - APN (Articulated Private Network): The logical view that the user has of the resources he owns and/or he has acquired from other providers Provide a Grid interface to the experimental platform Different administrative domains sharing network resources on a peer basis Network resources can be partitioned in several management domains. Deploy a system which abstracts the network resources as objects to the user (UCLP) Customers (either human clients or grid applications) can self- provision bandwidth guaranteed connections over multiple optical/electrical equipment in a dynamic way. Dynamic topology resource discovery

What’s UCLP? As Bill St. Arnaud says in his “UCLP Roadmap”: –“UCLP can very simply be thought of as a configuration and partition manager that exposes each lightpath in a physical network and each network element associated with a lightpath as an “object” or “service” that can be put under the control of different network users to create their own logical IP network topologies”.
