Presentation transcript:

Vocabulary Pseudocoelom = a body between the mesoderrn and the endoderm Cuticle = thick, tough, outer covering that protects the worm

Vocabulary Anus = posterior opening of the digestive track Larva = immature from of an oranism

Characteristics * Roundworms with long, cylindrical bodies * Free-living; some parasites and animals * Pseudocoelomates * Digestive tract with a mouth and anus

Examples Ascaris * Parasitic worms that live in the intestines of man, pig, and horses * Contracted by eating water or food contaminated with eggs

Examples Hookworm * Burrow through feet * Larvae migrate to intestinal wall and sucks blood

Examples Trichinella * Infects people who consume undercooked pig meat containing cysts * Cysts release larvae, which burrow into intestinal wall and develop into adults

Other Nematodes Pinworms - live in lower intestine and lay eggs on skin around anus Filarial worms - live in human lymphatic system transmitted by mosquitoes
